WTF is a Misogi goal and why does it sound like a yoga pose?
Happy Tuesday (to all who celebrate)
It’s sunny in Vancouver, so I’m keeping today’s note short and sweet so I can get back on the seawall for a strava loop (holla at me if you’re on there)
✏️ Today I’m digging into: Misogi Goals, the 27-year-old founder of Scale AI, and using grayscale to make your eyes like the world more than your iPhone.
Slip your allbirds off, toss your feet up, and let’s dive in.
⚙️ Framework I’m using: Misogi Goals
Ever heard of them? I’ve been hooked on them since Jesse Itzler put it on my radar. It stands for “decade-defining goal”.
Something that has 1) a high likelihood of failing, 2) which will make you grow and 3) is something you remember 20 years from now
My 2024 Misogi goal is to run a 100km trail race this August 9th. I haven’t told many people but thought I’d spill the beans in this newsletter
Let me tell you, the 3 months of training haven’t been all roses and sunshine, but it teaches me a few new things every week. I like doing hard things physically b/c my 90% of my job is typing on a metal keyboard
Do you have a Misogi goal? Hit reply and spill the beans. Or, my buddy Presh launcehd a group chat for people doing Misogis if you wanna join it
👀 Founder I’m watching: Alexandr Wang
Last year I heard Alexandr Wang, the 26 year old founder of Scale AI speak in Vancouver. It blew my mind.
Today his business is worth $7B, employs 600 people and he’s younger than 90% of the people reading this newsletter. Bonkers.
What do they do in one line? Scale AI delivers super high quality training data for AI big companies in self-driving cars, mapping, AR/VR, robotics”.
The part I’m curious about? How did Alexandr get ahead of the entire world on AI? Time will tell if he replies to my LI invite.
🛠 Favourite tool I’m loving: Grayscale
I caught up with my buddy Austin Driedger the other day
He pulled out his phone for something and it caught my eye. It was dark, boring and stale. I loved it.
I asked him to help me set mine up the same way on the spot. If you’re laughing b/c I live under a rock and haven’t tried Grayscale yet, I get it. You’re free to laugh. But if you’re like me and wanna give it a shot, read about it here.
If you read this far reply and let me know.
Food is my #1 love language but feedback is my 2nd.
Stay curious,
Joel (aka the guy who discovered grayscale 12 years late)
